  • Getting Healthy Hair @Home

Now, when we say daily care, we definitely do not expect you to apply some form of paste or ointment daily. What we mean by daily care is a few precautions here and there which can affect your hair health significantly.

Sharing a few such generic precautions followed by a few DIY masks which can help you curb your hair fall and get healthy voluminous hair.

Do Not let the dirt build-up
Our routines are hard and we hardly have any time to relax. In such a situation, our hair care usually takes a back seat because even if the hair get oily, we can always go for a hairstyle to cover that up.
Now, this kind of carelessness results in dirt and dust piling up, even more after the oil starts surfacing. The result- dandruff, itching, hair fall and/or other concerns.

The solution- wash your hair at regular intervals so that they remain clean and an important thing to note- do not go out immediately after washing your hair because a good hair wash opens up your pores making it susceptible to environmental infections. The solution- use a conditioner!

    Oil them well
Shampoos, and no matter how mild they are drain your hair of the moisture. It is thus important that you oil at least once a week so that the oil content of your hair is maintained adequately which is essential for shiny looking hair

Use cold or lukewarm water to wash your hair
Do not use warm or hot water on your hair ever because it drains away the moisture content. Cold water or the one at normal room temperature works the best. In case, you prefer slightly warm water then go for lukewarm but never hot.

    Do not comb wet hair
Because, right after a hair wash, your hair retain water droplets and due to that momentary change in their keratin structure, they are usually week and can break off easily from their roots.
Instead, let them dry up a bit and then gently run your comb/brush through them.

    Brush Responsibly
Do not go harsh on those hair knots. It would simply break your hair and give them a dull unkempt look. Instead, go for a smoothener which will oil up the hair knots and open them up with a gentle brush stroke.

Also, make sure your hair touches your scalp and goes down till the very end. This is because this helps in blood circulation and hence improving your hair density and growth. Every once in a while, let your hair down and then comb- this gives your hair a bouncy look and results in a more even distribution of the oil on your scalp thus significantly reducing the oily look.

And now 2 DIYs to help your hair:
    Amla Powder Paste
Mix 2 tbsp of amla powder with 2tbsp of lime juice and mix well. Apply this mix to your scalp and let it dry.
Once dried, wash it off with lukewarm/cold water.

Why this- A natural source of antioxidants and Vitamin C, Amla not just strengthens your hair but also improves its pigmentation i.e. makes your hair colour darker and reduces the chances of graying.

    Coffee Powder Paste
Brew 3-4 tbsp of coffee in one cup of water. Once the solution is ready, let is cool.
Pour it on your scalp and gently massage it.
Once done, wash it off with cold water.

Why this- Coffee is highly potent and hence helps with hair growth as well as regrowth. The mixture stains hair as well and hence, instantly colours the gray hair naturally.

  • The Fat Cell Dilemma

Fat is basically the “thing” stored in the fat cells and the fat cells are the cells whose number in the body varies with every person. But what do fat cells have to do with anyone getting fat. The answer is- everything!

Fat Cells are the cells that store fat in them. A bunch of adipocytes or fat cells together forms the adipose tissue or the fat. The major function of these cells/tissue is to store energy in the form of fat but they are also responsible for insulation and cushioning the body.

Though no concrete evidence has been found on what decides the number of fat cells in a body, yet most researches point that it is a hereditary implication.

Another interesting fact to know is that fat cells do not form throughout a person’s life. Rather by the time one has touched their mid twenties, most of the fat cells have already been formed. Over time, some damage and repair mechanism exists but the number of fat cells remains more or less constant.

Now, the fat cells have infinite capacity to store fat and expand in size so whenever you overeat, you know where the fat goes.

When a person exercises, the fat from the fat cells gets used up to create energy and keep the body functioning well. Now, fat cells produce a hormone called leptin which signals the brain to stop eating.
As the fat in the fat cells dissolves, the fat cells produce lesser and lesser leptin and thus the brain keeps asking for food to replenish the lost fat and hence giving us hunger pangs.

Also, even if the entire fat from the cells gets used up, the cells remain and hence the tendency to get fat. Thus your two questions can be answered as:

Why am I getting fat, how can i reduce it– Because, your body is storing fat. This can be both hormonal or because of your lifestyle. Try keeping a check on your lifestyle by eating healthy and exercising and the results should show. In case they do not, consult a medical practitioner and get your hormonal profiling done.
How should I prevent myself from getting fat again– Remember, you will always get fat if you get back to your pre fat loss lifestyle. So, maintain the discipline. Does that mean you should starve yourself- NO! Include natural fruit juices (not the canned ones) and fibrous food in your diet. Try millet based preparations- this will not just keep your hunger in control giving your brain a pseudo- I am full feeling but also help with digestion.
So, after having read this blog, we hope that you now know that having fat and fat cells in your body is not in your hands, but the size your fat cells can expand to- you definitely have control over it!

    Trivia:
Women and Men when born, have essentially the same fat cell number. It is only after the puberty hits that the fat cell characteristics and distribution starts varying with the gender. While men store fat around their chest, abdomen and buttock giving them an apple shape, women store it in their breasts, waist, hips and buttocks giving a pear shape.

Also, in many cases, men are found to have lesser fat cells than women (a hypothesis which still needs a scientific evidence to back but is supported by observational data)

  • Women, Baldness and Hair Transplant

For females, a visible hairless scalp is a rare occurrence and it is only obvious because androgens- the hormone responsible for male pattern baldness does not get hyper-produced in the female body until their menopause if at all it does get produced.

However, to state that female pattern baldness does not exist would be a mis-informed statement. This blog deals with the topic of female pattern baldness and what can be done to prevent and/or correct it.

    Understanding Female Pattern Baldness

A more hormone induced issue, female pattern baldness is characterised by thinning of individual hair strand making them susceptible to breakage. The female baldness is categorised as:

Type I Baldness which involves slight thinning of the hair density around the hair parting
Type II Baldness which involves comparatively wider areas around the parting getting affected
Type III Baldness involves a reduction in the hair density throughout the scalp resulting in visible hairless scalp area
Women on an average lose about 20-80 strands a day, a loss which is usually replenished over time owing to the usual hair growth cycle. Anything more than that will require attention, however, may or may not qualify for a female pattern baldness.
Female pattern baldness’ starting symptoms lie in the hair getting thinner and breaking off easily. This may not involve hair breaking from the roots completely but anywhere along the length.

    What causes Female Pattern Baldness
Baldness in females is mostly hormonal and in some cases due to nutritional deficiency, mostly of iron.
Women as early as in their 20s do not experience female pattern baldness. The FPB usually sets in during the late 40s or early 50s post menopause. As mentioned earlier, iron deficiency can be a cause of hair loss too and in such cases, intake of folic acid supplements suffices.

However, it is always advisable that one should go and see their doctor immediately if any irregular and heavy hair loss pattern is observed. One can take up application of ayurvedic oils as well but should not rely upon them solely.

The simple logic for that is that hair loss is caused by deficiencies on hormonal imbalances inside the body and hence topical application (application on the surface) can yield only limited results.

Is Hair Transplant an option for Females?

Luckily, most women do not require hair transplant because the hair loss is usually limited. However, one can undergo hair transplant to increase the hair density in the affected scalp regions or in general to increase the hair volume.

PRP and other hair re-growth procedures such as Growth Factor Therapy and Low Level Laser Therapy can be more useful for the common concerns.

It is important to note that the efficiency of the treating doctor will have a crucial role to play in case of an effective hair transplant and hence, make sure that you have thoroughly confirmed your treating practitioner’s background before you take up the treatment with them.

PS: Hair Transplant is a safe procedure and anyone can take it. It yields sure shot results but takes some time to show the final permanent results. The key is to be patient and stick to the prescribed regimen religiously.

  • The Heel Story

But unlike best friends, heels can be harmful for not just the posture but the overall being of the body. This is because the added height comes at shifting of the pressure centres of the body and the spine reshaping it to suit the needs.
Does that mean that one should not wear heels at all or is there any ideal frequency or heel type one can consider? What about fashion and so many dresses which go well with heels only?

Well, this blog answers all of them but before that, let us have a look at the damage being done and why wearing heels always needs a serious thought:

    The damage done:

Wearing heels shifts the pressure from your complete foot to the balls of your feet, thus increasing the pressure per area and hence the strain on your tendons.

To balance this abnormal distribution of pressure, the achilles tendon gets stretched and stiffens up over time. The hips thus protrude outside resulting in the spine to curve up and move outwards.

This in turn puts additional pressure on the knees to ensure that the upright posture is maintained.

Thus, while the overall body shape becomes attractive, it strains several of the body muscles and a constant exposure to such conditions over time can result in osteoarthritis or soreness in the back and calf muscles.

How to Avoid the Damage while still maintaining the Style Quotient
Well, it is not difficult at all. All you need to do is to make the following simple routine changes:

Alternate your high heels with wedges, lesser heels and block heels. This will ease out your muscles
When sitting, take your heels off and rotate your feet clockwise and anti-clockwise to facilitate smooth blood circulation. Widen up the fingers of your foot and stretch them so that they can relax
Include leg/calf stretches in your exercise routine. This will help strengthen your muscles so that they can endure more
When you wear heels, make sure you cap the time to not more than 3 hours and post that let your feet relax
Make sure that every night before sleeping, you give your feet a gentle warm soak to loosen up the deposited lactic acid and soothe the muscles. Follow this up with a gentle massage using a foot cream on your sole. This will prevent the skin from hardening.
Hope this would let your feet have a nice time too while you look your sassy best like always!

  • KosmoSculpt- Fat Loss and Body Contouring Combined

    What is KosmoSculpt?

KosmoSculpt is a proprietary procedure developed at Kosmoderma which offers holistic solution for fat loss concerns. A non surgical procedure, KosmoSculpt involves usage of a hand-held device which sends across a combination of energies(Magnetic Pulses and Radio Frequency) to the tissues below the skin’s surface in order to heat them and hence facilitate effective and fast collagen production.

How is it different from other Fat Loss Procedures?
Unlike other fat loss procedures, KosmoSculpt not just removes the excess fat deposits but also firms up the skin in those areas and reduces fine lines and wrinkles as well.

How many sessions does the procedure require?
It would largely depends on the area being treated. However 6-8 sessions would be required in most cases.

What kind of downtime should one expect?
A session usually lasts 30-40 minutes after which you are good to go!

  • Skin Lightening- The Fast and Effective Solution

So, why does our skin darken in the first place- mainly because of melanin deposition and in some cases, it is just the skin reacting to the damage that is being done. This damage can be of a temporary or permanent nature and hence the solution has to differ depending upon the extent of damage being done.

Also, since melanin deposition takes place beneath the skin, the solution has to come from there as well. Which means- most of the topical applications where one is supposed to apply the ointment or cream on the surface will not yield result. That being said, there can be a temporary bleaching effect but if skin lightening is the goal to be achieved then that would not be possible.

In such a case, what should one do?

Well, the answer lies in trying out glutathione and/or laser.
Now, glutathione is the antioxidant responsible for your skin fighting the sun damage and thus preventing melanin deposition. Over time, as we age, the body’s efficiency in generating glutathione decreases and hence, we observe a subtle darkening of our original skin shade.

Depending upon, how diminished this ability gets over time, melanin deposition increases accordingly.

Glutathione intake in form of either oral shots or as injections boosts the glutathione levels in the blood thus helping in diminishing the melanin deposition and hence lightening the complexion.(We have a detailed blog dedicated to the composition and working of Glutathione, in case you wish to have some in-depth knowledge, please refer that)
In some cases, however, lasers are required to destroy the pigment and restore the complexion. The lasers not only give results faster but also are more effective than glutathione.

So, what do we say- consult your dermatologist and let them assess the level of pigmentation your skin has and let them prescribe a suitable combination of glutathione shots/injections/laser for you.

  • Vampire Facial- The Extreme Skin Care and Anti Aging Solution

    What is a Vampire Facial?

It is basically injecting your own blood into your face to make your skin glow. But it isn’t the usual blood that is injecting. A Vampire facial involves taking blood from your body and centrifuging it to separate the plasma. This Plasma or in technical terms- PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) is then injected into your skin.

Now your blood is something that your body in general and immune system in specific is used to and hence the PRP starts to work immediately- repairing the dead tissues, boosting collagen, plumping up the dull skin and thus giving it a distinct glow, not to mention the immunity boost that it thus gives to the skin.

Who should go for a Vampire Facial?
Anyone who thinks they need a boost to their glow, feel like fine lines have started showing on their face, think that their skin looks dull or need a good skin maintenance can go for it.

How many session(s) does it usually require?
Mostly depends on your needs, if it is just maintenance- one would do but if you have some concerns to be addressed, two is the least you would need!

    Is it available in India?
Well, that is the whole point of this blog. The Vampire Facial is now available in India at your very own Kosmoderma Skin Hair Body Clinic.!

  • Festive Season Detox- Say NO to Skin Troubles

    Pimples!

We could have called them acne but considering that most of the pimples that pop up during this time around are not something chronic but a touch and go, let us stick to the more layman version of it- Pimple!

So, just a few quick questions-

Do you keep your makeup brush uncovered, letting it rest around any nook or corner of the makeup box?
Does your makeup souffle feel sticky or wet?
Did you take off your makeup before sleeping?
Are you washing your hair after every dose of hair setting products?
Have you been touching your skin too often?
Too much of oily food or random diet schedules for you?

If you find yourself answering a NO to most and a YES to the last two- you have solved most of your concerns- just avoid doing whatever you have been doing right now and you will see a lot of improvement.

Now, this is what you need to do in addition to the aforementioned:

Let your skin breathe- remove all the makeup before sleeping and gently dab some rose water into it.
Use a Moisturiser to clean off- Do not use a makeup wipe straight, put peanut sized moisturiser on it and then clean your skin of the makeup. This will prevent any harsh rubs to your pores
Exfoliate- more than usual, preferably every third day of putting the makeup
Need not lather up moisturising creams, if at all, use moisturising gels which get absorbed fast and do not provide a sticky breeding ground for environmental bacteria which exist even at your home!
And if all this is still not helping, then maybe you should see a dermatologist because there are high chances that your “chronic” acne has just started showing up- better nip it in the bud!

    Dry Skin
Not able to drink a lot of water or drinking a lot of caffeine or sugary drinks- needless to say you are going high on ingredients which lead to excessive water loss- result being a dry dull skin.

Makeup bases full of moisturisers may help your skin look just fine but remember that the damage is still happening and will continue to be so in case you do not take proper action.

We suggest that you should go for a hydrating Medifacial or a Jet peel. We cannot expect you to keep drinking water all the time because that would be sort of impossible so, take up the alternative way and get your skin hydrated externally!

It is sort of like watering the plants- you provide them enough hydration from the outside which they eventually absorb!

    Dark Circles
Partying till wee hours, lifestyle imbalances, random diets, inadequate sleep, too much exertion- dark circles consider all these an invitation significant enough to ignore.

So what do you do? Not party?? Put calming balms after coming home late at night??

Well NO! Nothing like that- all you need to do is, go for an arginine peel and have your under eye area soothend. If however, you feel that you have been losing volume under your eyes and this is what is resulting in the dark circles- try fillers

    Lip dehydration
We know the touch-ups are required every few hours because lipsticks just do not stick- the result is parched dry lips and no matter how much lip-balms you apply, the cracks still show!

    What to do then?
Heard of lip pigmentation which is a permanent results for all your lip color woes- you might want to find out more about it!

  • The Daily Hair Care Routine for Men

With the tiring and rough routine males generally face, grooming the hair becomes a task. Beard grooming, well the laser shaping can take care of that but hair care always tends to take a back seat.
Another major concern becomes the distorted idea of hair care most males carry- shampoo regularly to keep your hair clean.

So, let us burst a few myths and understand the right way to take care of the manly hair!

    Do Not Shampoo Everyday
Constant shampooing dries up the hair by draining the natural moisture. If at all, the case is that the person sweats a lot, in that case use a mild shampoo- a baby shampoo on most days with the regular shampoo being used not more than twice a week.
Also, shampoos come with instructions for the type of hair they should be used on. Hence, do not pick your shampoo randomly. Choose the one which is made for your hair type.

    Use a Conditioner
Yes! There is nothing feminine about using a conditioner. A conditioner shuts down the pores which are left open after shampooing. This prevents environmental dust and infections from causing scalp troubles thus keeping your scalp and hence hair healthy.

    Get a Haircut Regularly
Well, yes you are lucky because you can keep cutting your hair every now and then unlike most females. Cutting your hair short and regularly helps to keep them in good health.

    Select Your Hairstyle
Haircut is not just about going and getting any random haircut which basically involves cutting the hair short. A hairstyle can change your looks considerably so spend some time on it and then go for the one which goes best with your personality.

    Carefully choose your styling products
Do not choose your styling wax or gel randomly. Go for products which are specifically curated for your particular hair type. Since animal testing is cruel and has been stopped, hence test your products on a small hair patch before applying it generously over the entirety. Also, refrain from using them regularly because at the end of the day, they are chemicals which can damage your hair and in some cases cause premature hair ageing.

These are a few basics, you should consider while taking care of your hair.
However, hair fall, hair loss, dandruff etc are the concerns which can plague anyone irrespective of how much care they take. The maximum help a good hair care regime will provide will be to delay the damage.
So, what when the damage finally happens?
Well, you do not have to worry because we are just a call away.

  • The 8 point Lift Technique

However, fairly recently, the 8 point lift technique has started taking over as the preferred face lift procedure. The major reason for it being preferred is its non-surgical nature.
The technique involves injecting fillers at 8 specific points on the face to give a more natural looking lift to the face.

To give a more detailed understanding, the lifting points are explained below. For a brief update, you may refer to the shared image:
    https://cdn.shortpixel.ai/client/q_glossy,ret_img,w_850/https://www.kosmoderma.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/non-surgical-facelift-8-points.jpg
Points 1 and 2 for the Cheekbone structure
Ageing results in natural loss of the cheekbones or as can be put, the cheek bones soften due to calcium deficiency over time. Because of this, the skin at the said area sags and gives the face a droopy look. Some people also lose their fat over time which ends up giving a sunken look to the face.
Liquid lifts at these points give volume to the face while also resulting in skin stretch which happens due to the added volume.

Point 3 for the Tear trough area of the midface
Mainly for the under eye concerns. This lift reduces the structural hollowness of the under eye area by giving volume there. This volume not just makes the area plump up but also reduces the dark circle appearance.

Point 4 for the nose to mouth folds’ straightening
This point is for giving volume to the area around mouth and below the nose esp in the cases where ageing has resulted in fat loss.

Point 5 for straightening the Corner of mouth
For correcting the lip curve which gets a downward turn over time.

Point 6 for the pre-jowl area
A jowl formation results due to loss of volume in the jaw, cheek and chin areas. Adding volume to point 6 in addition to other points helps prevent jowl formation.

Point 7 for a more defined jawline
A defined jawline looks good and adds youthfulness to the face. This point caters to that.

Point 8 for adding volume to the lower cheek area
This point lift adds volume to the lower cheek area and reduces the appearance of facial folds and sagging chin. This point is specially important for regaining the natural shape of the face.

The procedure duration is usually 45 minutes or less inclusive of all the operational and treatment activities. The treatments on its own is a 20 minute procedure.
The results last for 12-18 months and if required, a person might take touch ups to maintain the look.
