Surgery is indeed an almost permanent option and we know from our experience with several patients at Kosmoderma that there is hardly any downtime but, we still prefer that you should try exercising first. These exercises may not have drastic effects but the fact that the results would be significant enough has a high probability.
Tongue Press
Sit with your back straightened up and tilt your head such that you face the ceiling now.
Press your tongue against the roof of your mouth
Maintain this position for about 10 seconds
Now, while holding your tongue in the same position, lower your chin to touch the chest as far as possible
Hold for 10 seconds again
Repeat this procedure in two sets of 10 each
PS: Your stamina will build over time, do not stretch too much in the first time and end up with the neck pain.
Chin Rotation
Sit or stand with your back straight
Rotate your chin anti-clockwise starting from your shoulder
Make 5 such neck rotations to begin with
Make sure your shoulders stay stationary and down while you rotate your neck.
Tongue Stretch
Relax yourself and open your mouth as wide as you can.
Stick your tongue out as far as you can till you feel your chin and neck tighten.
While you hold your tongue out, count till 10 and then release
Repeat this procedure 10 times
Take a side profile image before you start your regular exercise. Take another side profile picture after 15 days and see the difference for yourself.

Fiction: All Laser Treatments are the Same
As was mentioned earlier, though Laser Treatments can be used for treating a variety of concerns, yet their principles can be significantly different.
Also, the lasers used for various skin types have properties specific to that particular skin type. That is the reason why a thorough skin examination is required before the doctor refers a laser treatment to you.
Laser Facial Treatments for example, are quick and require almost no downtime. They are not very intense and don’t require any anesthesia. In contrast, Fraxel lasers tend to go a little deeper. Depending on the type of Fraxel laser a patient chooses, downtime can be anywhere from a day or two to a full week. Some laser treatments focus on specific issues. For example, a laser facial with Levulan is recommended to patients who have acne or other lesions. People suffering from spider veins might choose a laser treatment designed to help the veins fade from view.
Fact: Laser Resurfacing Can Be Combined with Other Treatments
Just like any other treatment, Laser Resurfacing treatments can also be combined with others to improve upon the effectiveness. For example, chemical peels and laser scar removal work best for hyperpigmentation, medifacials and lasers work for open pore treatments etc.
Also, many people combine laser treatments with facelifts, botox or fillers to not just get their wrinkles treated but also have a rejuvenated skin. This is because the latter treatments, while they treat signs of ageing, do not really help in rejuvenating the skin.
Fiction: You Won’t Need Any Downtime After a Laser Treatment
Laser treatments usually have a shorter recovery period as compared to other skin treatments but that doesn’t mean that they do not have any downtime at all.
The downtime can be as short as a few hours but it still exists. Also, like was mentioned above, treatments such as those done with Fraxel laser may involve a comparatively longer downtime which might span over a few days too.
This is because laser treatments are ablative in nature i.e. they damage the cells to facilitate regeneration. However, it is this very reason that also makes the results more pronounced compared to other treatments.
Fact: Laser Resurfacing Treats a Variety of Concerns
Laser Treatments are definitely useful for a variety of concerns such as acne, hair removal, skin lightening, pore size reduction, hyperpigmentation etc. The details of each of these are mentioned under the Laser Treatment section of the website already.
In most cases, other than Laser Hair Removal of course, Laser Treatments work by stimulating collagen production in order to expedite skin healing and rejuvenation. Another principle on which Laser resurfacing works is by boosting exfoliation and increasing the cell turnover. This principle commonly forms the basis for treating hyperpigmentation where the Laser essentially destroys the damaged skin cells causing the scars to fade away and lead way for new cell generation.
Fiction: Laser Treatments Replace Surgery
A laser treatment can be used as an add on for improved results but it can never replace plastic surgery- at least not till any significant scientific advancements get made.
Surgical procedures such as facelifts, skin sags etc can only be done by abrasions or injections of substances. Lasers on the other hand involve damaging cells for recuperation or treatment- a purpose which limits the usage to maintenance as against the surgeries.
We hope that this fact and fiction list helped you people to get a clearer understanding.
In case you want to read things in detail, the website is your playground.
Keep glowing!

Mono threads are a type of single PDO (Polydioxanone ) filament. They are smooth in texture and do not have any barbs which makes them minimally invasive.
Often inserted into the skin in a mesh-like pattern for achieving maximum tightening, mono threads are very effective at tissue tightening but have little or no effect as far as face lift is concerned. To give the lifting effect, mono threads are usually combined with cog threads.
After entering the skin, mono threads activate collagen generation which not only tightens the skin but also rejuvenates it.
Mono threads can treat neck sags, forehead lines and facial wrinkles.
Cog Threads
Cog threads are similar to mono threads with the addition of barbs that attach to the underside of the skin providing enough support for lifting the skin tissues too.
Cog threads can be used individually or in combination with mono threads to enhance the latter’s utility in order to not just firm up the skin tissues but also lift them.
Cog threads can be used to create a slimmer face by lifting the jawline sag, eyebrow sag or nose sag.
Screw Threads
Screw Threads are used to give a more voluminous look to the face by creating V-shapes. The V-shape lift reverses the sunken areas
A non surgical thread lift can thus be given. When two threads are intertwined, the method is known as a “multi screw”.
That being said, the results of these thread lifts last anywhere between 18 to 24 months.
We hope that the information was enough for you but should you wish to know more, we are just a phone call or email away.

Fish Lips
Suck in your cheeks like a fish, with your lips pursed.
With your lips still pursed, smile as hard as you can. Make sure you do not strain your eyes in the process
Hold on to the pose for 10 seconds.
Relax.
Repeat the process three times.
Forehead Smoother
Make a fist with both hands. Place the middle and index finger knuckles in the center of your forehead and apply firm pressure.
Maintain the pressure as you slowly slide your fists out to each side.
End by gently pressing your knuckles into your temples.
Repeat four more times.
Neck Lift
Make a pout, turn your neck and lift it up enough to stretch.
While stretching, make sure that the angle is around 45 degrees. You will feel slight stretch on your neck which is the crucial part of this exercise
Hold on to the pose for three seconds.
Repeat the same exercise by turning your neck to the other side
Repeat the entire procedure 3 more times
Face Lift
Place both palms on your temples.
Push your hands up in anticlockwise motion to stretch the cheeks
Parallely, open your mouth as long as you can and keep it like that.
Hold this pose for five seconds.

These are deep narrow scars giving the look as if something sharp pierced the skin. They usually develop after a cystic infection or deep inflammation which works its way to the surface. An atrophic scar, it is marked by the destruction of the skin tissue leaving a slender column like scar.
Ice pick scars begin as comedones (referred to as blackheads or whiteheads in layman terms). These comedones if left uncleaned, block the pores and as the bacteria in it multiplies, pus starts getting formed. The pus thus, builds up pressure which takes the inflammation to the deeper layers of the skin. This inflammation damages the skin and effects the collagen formation. This loss of collagen further allows the acne inflammation to sink deeper resulting in ice pick scars.
Two of the best treatments for ice pick scars include skin needling and fractional laser treatment. These techniques can both be performed in the comfort of a skin specialist’s office.
Box Scars
Box scars are usually round depressions with vertical sides. For easier imagination, imagine a hollow hemisphere put over a cylindrical bottle, hollow side up. They are wider than ice pick scars and give a pitted appearance to the skin. Another example of atrophic scars, these are formed when an inflammation destroys the collagen in the skin tissue. The depth of the scar varies in proportion to the tissue destruction.
Because box-scar scars have steeper edges than the other scar varieties, it is more difficult to smooth them out and blend them into the surrounding skin. Laser resurfacing, particularly ablative laser resurfacing (eg. Er:YAG, Nd:YAG, CO2) often produces good results. When box scars are too deep or resistant to laser resurfacing, plastic surgery for acne scars can provide a more targeted and permanent solution.
Rolling Scars
Rolling scars which appear as wavelike undulations on the skin are caused when fibrous bands of tissue develop between the skin and subcutaneous tissue below. The bands in turn pull the epidermis to the deeper structures of the skin.
Laser resurfacing (ablative and non-ablative), chemical peels, microdermabrasion, needling, subcision and even red light phototherapy can produce significant results in case of rolling scars.
Keloid Scars
When scar tissue forms in great excess, it can become a large nodule of dense, rubbery scar tissue that is known as a keloid. The development of hypertrophic and keloid scars is less common in acne patients than the development of depressed scars. A number of factors can potentially be involved in the process, including acne severity and duration, genetics and secondary infections.
Ablative laser resurfacing and microdermabrasion can produce satisfactory results in case of keloidal scars. Keloidal scars can also be surgically removed but are generally less responsive to treatments like chemical peels, because the scar tissue is much more resistant to the ingredients in a chemical peel than healthy tissue.
Discoloration and Pigmentation Scars Discoloration of skin is a natural response of the skin to the inflammation caused on account of acne. It usually appears as colored patches ranging from pink to red, brown or black depending upon the skin tone and depth of discoloration. In many cases, this discoloration usually fades with time however, in some cases medical intervention is required.
Hyper-pigmentation occurs when melanocytes begin to proliferate at the site of injury, or when an existing population of melanocytes begins to produce excess amounts of melanin. Hyper-pigmentation is often treated with light and laser treatments that specifically target melanin, such as KTP Lasers, Pulsed Dye Lasers (PDL), and Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) therapy.
Hypo-pigmentation occurs when melanocytes are depleted from the injury site or lose their ability to produce melanin. This is often the case in areas of skin that have been replaced with scar tissue, which tends to have a light, pinkish appearance. Hypo-pigmentation is generally more noticeable in those individuals with darker base skin tones.
That was all we had to share for now. Any additional information, well we will have another blog for that.

But do these peel off masks actually work or is it only in our heads? But, if not peel offs then are peels any better?
This blog aims to answer this dilemma.
How Peel off Masks work?
Peel off masks work by sticking to the skin surface in their liquid form. In the process of drying up, these masks attach themselves to the skin forming a bond with the dirt and dust particles on the surface.
When dried and peeled, the mask comes off and the impurities and excess oil come along with it. Our blackheads and whiteheads which are essentially the excess oil and impurities clogging the skin pores thus come off.
In some cases, the mask peels off the finer facial hair too which makes the skin appear lighter. It has been claimed that peel off masks containing activated charcoal seep into the deeper layers and can remove the impurities from the deeper layers but no experimental evidence has yet substantiated the claims.
How Peels Work?
Chemical peels on the other hand involve peeling off of the skin by application of an acidic solution in order to boost collagen production which in turn facilitates skin regeneration.
The chemical solution thus applied to the skin causes it to exfoliate and eventually peel off giving way to the generation of fresh skin.
The new, regenerated skin is usually smoother and less wrinkled than the older one because of the boosted collagen production.
A comparison of Benefits
Unlike the acid solution used in chemical peels which seeps into the deeper skin layers to facilitate the skin peeling and also skin rejuvenation, peel off masks work on the surface itself.
In some cases, dermatologists have also claimed that the fact that the patients can themselves peel the mask off and feel the tingling sensation results in more of psychological perception of skin improvement as against any actual changes.
However, considering that not everything can be psychological, peel off masks mostly have exfoliating effects on the skin.
Chemical Peels on the other hand have the following benefits:
Reduction of fine lines and wrinkles
Removal of dead skin cells
Smoothening of the rough texture
Improvement of skin hydration
Skin softening and reduction of open pores
Lightening of pigments and dark spots
Reduction in the appearance of acne scars
Reduction and drying out of active acne
Exfoliation of razor bumps
Reduction of ingrown hair
Enhancement of homecare programs by allowing deeper penetration of active products
We feel enough has been said already. Now, while we would suggest a Chemical Peel over a Peel off, ultimately it is your skin and your choice!

Other than microdermabrasion, there is microdermabrasion-microparticles too which is an innovative way to treat minor ailments.
The text below discusses dermabrasion against microdermabrasion microparticles.
The Working Principles
Dermabrasion essentially scrapes away the surface or epidermal layer of the skin. Done by means of a rotating wire brush, the process creates controlled wounds on the target areas. The wound creation facilitates formation of new cells in the area.
The time for the wounds to heal takes anywhere between a few days to over a week.
Microdermabrasion Microparticles (MM) also works on the same principle but it is comparatively less abrasive with regards to dermabrasion. Instead of a wire brush, MM involves blowing off microparticles onto the skin. No wound is created in the process but the microparticles stimulate the growth of new skin cells which helps improving the appearance of the skin.
Results and Effectiveness
Considering that dermabrasion is a pretty aggressive technique which creates wounds, the results of the process are considerably better than MM. While MM can improve only the surficial skin qualities, dermabrasion can work on correcting fine lines, wrinkles, age spots, sun damage and hyperpigmentation.
Dermabrasion can also lessen the scars and in some cases help in tattoo removal too.
Side Effects and Limitations
Both dermabrasion as well as MM are dependant on the experience of the dermatologist/therapist. If not done right, the treatments can result in hyperpigmentation, hypopigmentation, thickening of the skin and even scarring.
It is thus recommended that if the wound caused by the process becomes, red, swollen or itchy, medical help should be sought.
That was all we had to offer for now. Hope it added to your already huge knowledge pool!

Remember playing with orange peels, pinching them in each other’s eyes as a kid because of the burning sensation that that pinch left. The liquid that caused the slightly burning sensation in eyes is citric acid, a mild acid known for its bleaching properties.
To make adequate use of this naturally available citric acid, here is what needs to be done:
Dry up the chemical peels and when adequately done, crush them into fine powder.
Add one tablespoon each of milk and honey and squeeze one whole lime into it.
Mix the ingredients into a paste and apply the same on to the affected areas.
Keep the paste on for 20 minutes and then wash it with cold water.
Follow this procedure on alternate days for better results
Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple Cider Vinegar has been gaining prominence in the beauty circles because of its skin lightening and astringent properties which not only helps in restoring the natural colour but also tones up the skin. Here is how to put it to use:
Application: Mix equal amounts of apple cider vinegar with water and apply the liquid solution on the affected areas. Leave it to dry for about 15 minutes and then rinse off with cold water. Repeat the procedure twice daily, before going to sleep in the evening and the first thing to do after you wake up in the morning
Intake: Add two teaspoons of apple cider vinegar to slightly warm water and mix one teaspoon of honey and a few drops of lemon. Drink this solution twice a day- in morning and at night.
Almonds
Vitamin E is a rich source of antioxidants which help fight the free radicals which cause melanin deposition and hence hyperpigmentation. Almonds being the rich source of Vitamin E provide enough antioxidants to boost the skin’s immunity against the free radicals.
You can either make a paste by crushing almonds to a powder (the procedure is listed below) or you can eat them and enjoy the additional benefits of a glowing skin and improved hair quality.
Here is how to use almonds for topical application:
Soak five almonds in water overnight (about 8-9 hours)
Remove the almond peels the next morning and grind the almonds into a fine powder
Add milk to this powder along with one tablespoon of honey and juice of one lemon.
Mix the ingredients into a fine paste and apply on the affected areas
Leave it to dry and then wash it off with cold water.
Repeat the procedure twice in a week for better results.
Hoping that these treatments work for you too!
Have a glowing happy skin!

So, here we are telling you about what you need to do to detoxify your skin and body after a fun-filled time of festivities:
Let us start with the Skin First!
The Skin- Easier Done than Said!
No heavy make-ups because first, you wouldn’t need them and second it is important to let the skin breathe
Go for a simple clean-up or maybe a head and shoulder massage. This because a soothened up head and shoulders will take your tiredness away and put the glow back on the face
Massage almond oil into your facial skin daily at night before sleeping. A gentle massaging with the tip of your fingers will be enough to replenish the lost suppleness
The weekend immediately after your last party- stay insides and relax.
None of it is too much to do. All of the above are just letting your skin know that it can relax again and once it gets relaxed, the healing will happen on its own!
The Body- Now this will need some work!
Hot water and lemon in the morning- the first thing you do after you wake up is given but there are a few other things too.
Soak your feet in slightly hot water with salt dissolved in it. Do it twice in a week for one week (say Tuesday and Friday). It soothes up your legs and feet well. Important thing is that you need to soak up to your knees.
Incorporate beans and chilli in your diet. The chilly will burn the fat that you accumulated faster than it would have been normally and the beans will provide enough protein and fibre for an effective digestion.
Say no to tea and coffee and incorporate Buttermilk in your diet. Go for chilled buttermilk to keep your insides cool.
You can also take probiotic drinks to further fasten up your metabolism in case you have a slow one.
Get enough sleep- actually give yourself a bonus of 2 hours extra and be a bit lazy for a week. Your body will get enough hints to know that it is back to the relaxed mode again
And for the exercise part- well you just need to take stairs and walk as much as you can!
We hope that you found the aforementioned to be doable and a bit different from the usual clutter of information.
Follow them when the time comes; till then, Happy Festivities!

Stress
A pretty obvious reason which can be seen at its effective best when you are planning for a party! The exact cause for this has not been determined but evidence based research claims that stress is the reason for about 60% of the adult acne
Too Much Makeup
Yes, we know that make-up have become a part of your life and a basic foundation mixed with the sunscreen is a must apply before you leave your home but, that foundation might be the reason for your acne. Also, the night creams, the anti-wrinkle creams, the moisturising DIYs- it can be anything. Now, how to know which one is the reason, try by avoiding one at a time; you’ll know it soon.
Too Particular about your CleanUps
Going for clean-ups or facials again and again might cause acne because both of these tend to leave the pores open for a while and then, pollution, dirt and dust and hence the bacteria and viruses are all around and abound. Also, lymphatic drainages if done wrong (the results of the facial massages) result in acne too.
Too Careless about your CleanUps
Goes without saying, if you are not cleaning up well, and 3 months ago was the last you had a clean-up or even a proper exfoliation, you know whom to blame for those whiteheads, blackheads and pimples popping up.
Not scaring but PCOS or Thyroid may be the cause
Especially towards the age of 40 years and above when many ladies are nearing their menopause, hormones play a havoc on the internal systems resulting in acne. However, sometimes things can be as serious as a Polycystic ovarian Syndrome or thyroid too. Hence, if your acne is recurring abnormally- abnormally in the sense that it doesn’t tend to go away, a hormonal profiling is something you should go for immediately.
The Solution Part:
Like always, don’t touch, don’t pop
Touching your pimples continuously does nothing but help in spreading the infection to other opened up pores on your skin too which means more pimples for you. Hence, avoid that totally. Same goes for popping your pimples!
Keep a Betnovate handy
Yes, because it acts fast and at least dries your pimple up. A short term solution but immediate enough to keep you pimple in check
Exfoliate but in limit
Like we keep saying always, 2 times a week is enough exfoliation for your skin. Wednesday evenings and Sunday nights are the best to go for it (Or a Saturday night if you do not have any plans otherwise)
And finally, when you buy your beauty products, looks out for these.
Either of the below mentioned in your beauty products will help contain your acne issues.
Salicylic acid also known as beta-hydroxy acid works by exfoliating gently to unclog pores.
Benzoyl peroxide works by actually killing the acne bacteria, while exfoliating the pores at the same time.
Glycolic Acid, an alpha-hydroxy acid and an exfoliating ingredient because it targets both acne and wrinkles at the same time.
